2012 – Can we say “Happy New Year”?
There has been a lot of speculation around the New Year, 2012. Interpretations based on the Mayan Calendar range from doom and gloom to transformation. There is no doubt that significant changes are already happening in our world as we try to understand our values relating to climate change and the financial crisis. John Peterson writes, “We are entering an era that is surely going to try our souls, as we beg and scream for radically new perspectives and approaches to events and combinations of threats that humanity has never had to deal with before.” (A Vision for 2012: Planning for Extraordinary Change p.3). If the speculation based on the Mayan calendar is a bit of a stretch for you, I suggest John Petersen’s book, website, (www.arlingtoninstitute.org) and newsletter, FUTUREdition. This organization tracks the trends in politics, economics, physical science, social science, business, life style/social trends, and many other areas of life, reporting both breakdowns and breakthroughs that are leading to transformative change.
In simply reading the newspapers we can see significant changes happening as people are becoming involved in directing the course of their own lives, as well as the life of their communities and the governance of their country. These changes are not just happening to us, they are happening with our participation. We have an opportunity to influence the change in both positive and negative ways.
Todd Goldfarb has set up a website, www.worldwidetippingpoint.com. He hopes to gather enough people together to make a positive difference in our world. He has interviewed over 20 influential leaders about what is happening at this point in history. This site is not just about theory; it is about how we can practically participate in the changes that are happening, and I encourage you to check it out.
While we can wish each other a happy new year, we can also do more than that. Where do you stand? How will you participate? (Photo by Kookkai_nak)
